Dean Saunders has outrageously claimed that Aston Villa completing the capture of John Terry this summer is bigger than Manchester United’s £75million swoop for Romelu Lukaku.
Aston Villa most certainly managed a huge coup by securing the services of John Terry on a free transfer this summer and many believe that the experienced 36-year-old defender will be the driving force in helping the Villans earn promotion into the Premier League next season.
Fans and pundits alike have all been impressed with the fact that Villa were able to sign Terry this summer and now club legend Dean Saunders has taken the praise to the next level by making an outrageous claim.
Saunders stated that Terry signing for Villa is a bigger deal than Manchester United splashing £75million to acquire Romelu Lukaku from Everton and also added that the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool missed out by failing to land the former England national team captain.
Saunders said: “Forget Lukaku going to Manchester United – Villa signing John Terry on a free is the deal of the summer.
“It’s a bigger signing. It’s the best signing. If I was the manager of any of the top six in the Premier, I would have signed him. For me, that just shows you what must have been said behind the scenes by Steve and the owners to get him.
“John must have thought ‘I’ll have a bit of this. He’s nowhere near finished. If I was Arsene Wenger, I would have signed him.
“I know he wouldn’t have gone there because he didn’t want to play against Chelsea, but you get the point. If I was at Liverpool, I would have taken him. Same thing applies, but that’s how highly I rate him.”
