Villa are keeping tabs on Newcastle centre half, Grant Hanley according to reports from the Daily Star.
Hanley arrived at St. James’ Park just last season after leaving Blackburn Rovers for £5.5m but it looks as if The Magpies Boss, Rafa Benitez wants to clear out a few players to get his team ready for their return to the Premier League.
The defender made 10 appearances in the league this season for the Championship winners with five of those being from the bench. He also made six appearances in cup competitions.
The 25-year-old only averaged 0.1 tackle per game but also averaged three clearances and 0.9 interceptions per game. He also chipped in with a goal.
The Scotsman will have to take a pay cut if he dropped back down to the Championship with his current wages reportedly being £45,000-a-week after signing a five year deal.
The Mirror have reported that Derby have already lodged a £4m pound bid for the player. Just like Villa though, The Rams will need to offload players before bringing anyone in.
Both teams will be wanting to push for promotion next season but will have to get rid of the deadwood before doing so.
