Former Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has claimed that Aston Villa will finish above the Blues during the upcoming Championship campaign.
Rivals Birmingham City and Aston Villa have both endured difficult seasons over the past few years but the two Midlands giants finally head into the upcoming Championship campaign with a sense of renewed optimism.
This optimism is due to the fact that both Birmingham City and Aston Villa have wise old heads leading them in Harry Redknapp and Steve Bruce respectively.
In addition, both the sides have bought well during the current transfer window by acquiring the services of David Stockdale, Marc Roberts (Birmingham), John Terry, Glenn Whelan and Ahmed Elmohamady (Aston Villa) among others.
Now Alex McLeish has gone on to make a prediction about his former sides ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign and has stated that Villa will finish above Birmingham City despite his stronger affiliation to the Blues.
Speaking to Sky Sports, McLeish said, “It would be great to see that battle between the two of them, and those getting in there. My heart strings for the Blues having spent more time there, and I would like to see them get in the top six.
“The probability is that Villa have the better chance of being in that top six, but there are no guarantees in this Championship. You cannot predict a result form week to week. It’s so unpredictable.”
