Aston Villa youngsters were defeated by Leicester 3-0 in the final of the 7 a-side tournament over in Hong Kong. Last years winners just couldn’t handle the Foxes high press tactics and fell short in what had been a good tournament so far for the Claret and Blues.
Two goals from Josh Eppiah and one from Josh Gordon meant that Leicester could take the trophy back to England for the first time since 2013.
The two first half goals from Eppiah meant he overtook Harry McKirdy as the tournaments top goalscorer, as well as being named as the competitions MVP.
Villa topped their group by beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 and Singapore Cricket Club by 1-0 while drawing to Hong Kong FA U23’s 2-2. The youngsters then went on to beat Italian side Cagliari 3-0 as McKirdy and Cal O’Hare continued to impress for the young Lions.
The claret and blue’s then rampaged their way through the semi-final by beating Olympique Marseille 4-0 with a three and a half minute hat-trick from Villa’s top goalscorer of the tournament but they just couldn’t get going in the final where it matters.
