The Birmingham Mail have reported that Aston Villa are eyeing up a £5m bid for Barnsley defender Marc Roberts.
The centre back was given the captains armband after impressive displays before Steve Bruce raided The Tykes and signed captain at the time Conor Hourihane as well as James Bree.
Premier League clubs were linked to Roberts in January but nothing came of it and the defender continued to catch the eye at Oakwell.
The former Halifax player will have to outperform either James Chester or Nathan Baker to get regular football at Villa Park with the two Villa players having played well last season.
It is more than likely that due to Financial Fair Play, Bruce will have to sell before he puts in bids like this.
