News coming from the Birmingham Mail is saying that a deal is looking more likely that Sam Johnstone will be returning to Villa Park on loan. Steve Bruce met with Jose Mourinho last week as he looked to sort out a deal for the 24 year old.
Bruce will be looking to bring in a goalkeeper and with Dr. Tony Xia wanting him to use the loan system to more effect this time round, so this deal would be perfect for him.
Johnstone spent the last five months at Villa and was the third keeper to play in goal this season. Pierluigi Gollini was shipped out to Atalanta on loan after six months of signing for Villa while Mark Bunn never looked convincing inbetween the sticks.
The 24 year old Johnstone, was put in goal straight away when he signed for Villa, making his debut in an FA Cup tie away against Tottenham. He then went on to play 22 consecutive games.
The young keeper was a big part in keeping eight clean sheets on the trot earlier this year when he started to look more composed and comfortable. He had a man of the match winning performance against Wigan where he kept the side in it with some brilliant saves.
