Aston Villa are on the verge of signing Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford on a one-year loan deal according to reports.
With the Midlands club’s transfer activity certainly hotting up over the past fortnight, it seems as though boss Roberto Di Matteo is close to securing the services of yet another player who could help spearhead Villa’s assault on England’s second tier this season.
Acquisitions of Ross McCormack as well as James Chester have brought renewed hope to Villa Park in recent times. And now, despite the paucity of goals scored in B6 last season, it looks as though competition for places in attack could become as fierce as ever should RDM complete the proposed move for Bamford this week.
With Benin international Rudy Gestede netting a brace on Saturday and Ross McCormack and Jordan Ayew more than capable of carving out healthy goal tallies in the Championship in 2016/2017, the addition of Bamford will give the Villains plenty of options in the final third of the pitch.
The Midlands club enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win over Rotherham on Saturday, marking the first time they’d won a competitive match at home since their 2-0 victory over Norwich in February of this year.
Next up, Villa face another tough test at home against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night, a side who have already claimed the scalps of Newcastle United and Brentford this season.
