3) Make a good start
Probably the most obvious of the suggestions to be made but the Championship is a long and demanding campaign which many of the current squad of players have yet to experience. Games come thick and fast in the league with a number of mid week games to be played.
It is a challenging campaign and a run of wins or losses can see a side’s position in the league dramatically change in a short period of time.
The fixtures for the new season are due to be released on Wednesday 22nd June and the club and supporters alike will be eager for a strong start.
Whilst much uncertainty still lingers over Villa Park, Di Matteo will be fully aware that if they are able to get off to a good start the general belief and confidence amongst the club will improve and a good run of results will see supporters return to Villa Park. The club announced that they have already sold 14,000 season tickets for the new season but attendances will undoubtedly improve should supporters see a return to winning ways.
There will surely be many ups and downs during such a long campaign but if Di Matteo can get off to a good start it may bode well towards making a promotion push.
