With Villa on the verge of a long-awaited takeover by a Hong Kong based consortium within the next few days, it is thought the Midlands club will make Oxford United striker Kemar Roofe their first signing going into this summer’s transfer window.
With chairman Steve Hollis putting the final touches on the acquisition by overseas pharmaceutical company Rui Kang Group, Villa’s backroom staff have been earmarking players who they believe can help fire them back into the Premier League at the first attempt next season.
Villa are currently second favourites behind Newcastle United with betting company 10bet to achieve promotion to the top flight next year at a price of 3/1 and may look towards the English striker as a source of goals in what is notoriously a tricky division to get out of.
After being named League Two player of the season thanks to his impressive performances in front of goal for promoted side Oxford United, 23-year-old Kemar Roofe is the subject of interest from Villa after several clubs before them including Newcastle United and QPR have also been linked with acquiring his services.
Despite his links to Villa’s rivals West Brom (he started life in their youth academy as a youngster), it is thought a bid of between £2-3 million will be enough to prise Roofe away from the Kassam stadium this summer.
