Joleon Lescott yet again made headline news for all the wrong reasons after his rather puzzling comments on his Aston Villa’s side confirmation of relegation today.
Villa were officially sent down to the Championship this afternoon after a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United made it impossible for them to avoid relegation. Following the game, the 33-year-old took to the press and informed them it was a ‘relief’ they were finally down and that now the ‘pressure was off’ he would be having a ‘good drink’ tonight.
This understandably got a large section of Villa fans riled as well as club legend Andy Gray who during the half time interval of Chelsea’s Premier League game against Manchester City, let the viewers of Bein Sports know what he thought.
“Just what is he playing at with those comments? He should be apologising to the fans immediately.”
“I was in the same position back in 87 and never in my wildest dreams would I have said anything like that. He’s saying that now the pressure is off his side can give it a good go in the last 4 games – but what about the 34 other games? Ridiculous.”
