Aston Villa have lost further ground in the bid to avoid relegation into the Championship following a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Stoke City.
Coming off of a 6-0 home hammering by Liverpool, Aston Villa desperately needed a positive result in their battle against the drop during the encounter against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium but Remi Garde’s men fell short once again.
While Villa did put in a much improved performance in comparison to their woeful display against Liverpool two weeks ago, it has to be said that Stoke looked very comfortable throughout the game.
Villa defended well in the first half and limited Stoke to only a few chances but a five minute collapse in the second period, where Marko Arnautovic grabbed a brace, meant that all of the away side’s good work before the interval was undone.
Leonardo Bacuna did halve the deficit on the 79th minute with a well taken finish but Villa did not do enough in attack afterwards and having slipped to a fourth defeat in five matches, the Midlands outfit now already find themselves a whopping eight points off of safety at the bottom of the Premier League table.
