Aston Villa have sold star striker Christian Benteke to Liverpool for a fee believed to be in the region of around £32.5million.
Benteke had joined Aston Villa from Belgian side Genk as a relative unknown during the 2012 campaign and the striker certainly managed to set the Premier League alight with his performances, scoring an impressive 49 goals in 101 appearances.
The Belgian international managed 13 goals in the Premier League last season and it would not be an exaggeration to state that his contribution was the single most important factor in helping Villa avoid relegation into the Championship.
Given his exploits last term, a number of clubs were unsurprisingly interested in signing Benteke this summer and now confirmation can be made that Liverpool have made a swoop for the 24-year-old by activating his £32.5 million release clause at Aston Villa.
Benteke has become Liverpool’s seventh signing of the summer and while the Reds will certainly benefit from his arrival, Villa will surely need to find an able replacement in order to fill in the boots of the imposing attacker.
